U.S.-backed Forces Take Control of Strategic Dam from ISIS

U.S.-backed Syrian forces have taken control of a strategic dam that blocks ISIS fighters from escaping Raqqa, the Islamic State's capital. The U.S. military provided helicopters, ground forces and artillery.

U.S. officials say seizing Tabqa Dam will isolate Raqqah from three sides and give the U.S.-backed forces a strategic advantage they need to free the city from ISIS control.

Federal officials say the dam has been used as ISIS headquarters since jihadists took over the city in 2013.
