U.S. Approves $15 Billion Possible THAAD Sale to Saudi Arabia

The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, THAAD, missile defense system to Saudi Arabia for an estimated $15 billion.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a news release Saudi Arabia has requested to buy 44 THAAD launchers, 360 THAAD interceptor missiles, 16 THAAD fire control and communications mobile tactical station group, seven THAAD radars.

According to the DSCA, “the proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a friendly country.” The statement goes on to say the sale will increase Saudi Arabia’s capability to defend itself.
