Belgian scientists say after nine years they have made a breakthrough in cancer research after finding evidence for the positive correlation between sugar and cancer. The study published in the journal Nature Communications found yeast with high levels of sugar stimulated cell growth in the same proteins commonly found in human tumors.
According to a press release, sugar “awakens” cancer cells. Researchers say the sugar cancer link “has sweeping consequences” and further research is needed on the subject, using their study as a foundation.
Scientists add, their research “may have far-reaching impacts on tailor-made diets for cancer patients.”
