NFL Won't Make Players Stand for National Anthem, But Believes They Should

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league believes its players should stand for the national anthem, but won’t force them to.

NFL executives met with players, union leaders and team owners to discuss the protests. Goodell said the players expressed their reasons for protesting. Goodell said they also spent time talking about why the NFL believes everyone should stand for the national anthem -- he said it’s an important part of the game and they take pride in it.

President Donald Trump reacted in tweet -- he said ”the NFL has decided that it will not force players to stand for the playing of our National Anthem. Total disrespect for our great country!”
