LBN’s Ryan Gaumont reports that gunmen entered the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, the capital of Mali. The gunmen seized 170 people as hostages. Malian and UN forces launched a counterattack at the hotel, and at the moment, it is believed that all the hostages in the hotel have been freed. The counterattack left as many as twenty people dead.
A group affiliated with Al Qaeda has said it carried out the attack. Security forces are continuing to search the hotel for gunmen, and the situation has not been resolved as yet. A spokesman for the security agency has stated that some of the gunmen were "dug in in the upper floors”.
The city of Bamako, Mali where the hotel is located happens to be a hub for French military forces aiding in the fight against Islamist Insurgents.
